Frequently asked questions

The questions customers ask in the atelier, with answers you can check against the official source.

What is the Shimano Ultegra Di2 R8100?

Second-tier road groupset, same 2x12 Di2 architecture as Dura-Ace but heavier and more affordable. Same JS-rendering limitation as Dura-Ace; no gallery photos extractable from raw HTML. Re-verified (2025-06-11): the page remains a Next.js app with zero static images (no jpg/png/webp) in the raw HTML or __NEXT_DATA__; the corresponding bike.shimano.com product-detail page (which does have a photo gallery) is blocked by Akamai bot protection in this sandbox (HTTP 403 'Access Denied' on every user-agent/IP attempt), so it could not be used as a substitute source.

Manufacturer information

What does shifting mean on the Shimano Ultegra Di2 R8100?

Shifting: Di2 electronic, semi-wireless. Electronic shifting offers light, consistent operation but needs charged batteries. Mechanical shifting needs no charging and often suits tighter budgets. On gravel, chain control and the right derailleur also matter; choose a coherent package.

Shimano technische handleidingen

What does speeds mean on the Shimano Ultegra Di2 R8100?

Speeds: 2x12. More gears can give smaller steps but do not tell you how easy climbing will be. Climbers and loaded riders should consider the lowest gear; fast flat-road riders cadence steps and the highest gear.
